E-Trakka® is a new and exciting tool to help trainers assess and monitor the fitness of horses under their care. E-Trakka® can be used to assess horses on an individual basis, providing trainers with fitness parameters and guiding training regimens. It can also be used as an “early warning monitoring system” to alert trainers to developing problems, and provide meaningful real-time information to both trainers and jockeys to enable fine-tuning of work session details. E-Trakka® can also provide data for general comparison between horses.
E-Trakka® has an integrated heart rate (HR) monitor and a global positioning system (GPS) built into the saddle blanket to measure velocity (speed) and position. These measurements are combined in easy to use software which produces meaningful training and fitness reports including sectional times, measurements of fitness, velocity and heart rates.
A specialised saddle blanket is central to the E-Trakka® system. Pockets in the saddle blanket hold a battery and a Saddle Blanket Unit containing a GPS unit, heart rate monitor, data logger and radio modem. A cable leads from the blanket to a GPS antenna in the rider’s cap, and two other cables lead to heart rate monitor electrodes. The blanket takes readings from the GPS and heart rate monitor once every second and stores the data in a logger. The blanket communicates via radio with a Rider’s display unit (optional extra) and your computer.
The riders display is mounted on the poll of the bridle and receives data from the blanket about the speed and heart rate of the horse during training. Data is transferred from the blanket to the computer via a download cable. Once on the computer the data is displayed in easy to use formats including one page reports, real time and delayed viewing, radio communication and rider’s display.
Commercial training environments are busy. Trainers are under pressure to train in the most effective and time efficient way possible, while minimising injury to the horse. E-Trakka® has been developed by people who know the racing industry. The system is not time and labour intensive, is easy to use and is backed by a support team with practical horse training and equine exercise physiology knowledge. Importantly the system can be used
during daily training without the need to interfere with normal stable practices.
